Bievenidos a Peru

We have finally made it in Trujillo, Peru. What started out as a 24-27ish hour bus ride turned into a 35 hour trip! We began our journey fine but our bus broke down twice causing us to lose about 5 hours. The second bus ran fine but had no a/c and no windows. Nothing is worse than that wake-up-from-a-nap-sweaty feeling after not showering since... we'll its just not pleasant. But thank God, we made it safely. We did however cause quite the scene in our attempt to cross over into Peru from Ecuador. Needless to say that Ecuadorians and Peruvians have some bad blood between them. So, when the Peruvian taxis came over into Ecuador to try to drive us straight through into Peru, 7 Ecuadorian taxis blocked them in and refused to let them drive us into Peru. So we had to take all our luggage off the taxis and, for some reason, load them onto these bicycle driven carts and walk across the border. There were two carts, surrounded by Gringos, walking through the huge Ecuadorian/Peruvian market and, of course, we got separated from each other. Finally, after sending a couple people to try and find the other group, we were reunited, loaded up the taxis and went on our merry way through Peru.
We are now in a big guest house in Trujillo, Peru for about 10 days where we'll be working with short term teams doing construction at an orphanage. We are very happy to have our own room, bathroom, internet access, and hot showers. Thanks again for your prayers and comments.

Eric
